So this is my typesetting for the 2006 Desert Practice Conference Mailer. The Desert Practice Conference is an annual event put on by the AIA (American Institute of Architecture), in which architects are invited to attend classes, conferences, and whatnot.
This is a class assignment, in which we were asked to create a brochure or a poster which "sold" the event and also informed people of the classes and lectures being offered. I decided to do a brochure AND a poster, the latter of which is still being worked on, but will be the "back" of this design. With that in mind, I wanted the brochure, when unfolded, to also look cool enough to hang on the wall.
The angles of the typesetting reference the slash in the "twenty/20" logo, which was created based upon the technical title of the event on the whole— "20/20: the future of architecture."
The dimensions of the unfolded piece are 24"x 17". Each panel is 6"x 8.5". The type is DIN, at varied weights and sizes. The copy is 12pt, for the most part.
The postcard that goes with this will be coming shortly (still putting some finishing touches on it). I'll also put up the back of this soon, as well.
Very very nice; such clean lines and minimalism. You've also made a great choice of clolours.
Very suitable font and your use of the simple graphics like the arrows and the angles give the typesetting
a very polished and professional feel.
i agree with it's very smooth and preffesional...if only all brochures were as catchy as this one is the use of the design and color integration is also very well done
The smoothness of your designs continue to amaze me. I don't think I have one critique for this piece. I'm not sure if a bunch of architechs would be able to think abstractly enough to right their notes at an angle.
It flows very nicely man...like all your designs. Excellent.
Nice work. I like the idea of the slash being referenced. Any chance you could upload the sketchwork involved in getting to this stage as I'd love to see your roughs.
i wasn't talking about the type, but more of the direction the type is placed. i guess a vertical alignment would be better than a diagonal one. Readers would have to turn the brochure.
Diagonal print, is more suited for a poster I guess. But for brochures and for large blocks of text, it would be more reader-friendly to have it in traditional format.
