This is a project I'm working on for ExploreAnywhere Software, a company which provides security and monitoring software for both home and business use. The client needed design work for DVD cases, in which he's going to place CDs of his product. Additionally, he needed a CD label redesign (I designed the original ones a couple years ago).
The design concept behind this is to make the product feel technologically advanced and superior without alienating the average household mom demographic. So on one hand I needed to attract your super techie who loves Apple gear, and on the other hand I needed to attract the typical parent who wants to monitor his/her child's internet activity. I also couldn't forget about the business demographic. SO, this had to be cool, slightly exciting, and professional.
This is the base template design for a series of roughly 10 products. They'll all follow the same basic design, but have altering features in order to differentiate them from one-another.
Please keep in mind that the identity is not my work.
You got the cool, slightly exciting, and professional look right on. The green is a nice choice, vibrant and fun but not too techy and not too domestic. I feel like I've seen that background (on the package design) pattern somewhere before, or atleast something very similar to it... It's interesting and keeps the package from being too dull, but I can't help but think I've seen it already. I dunno. At any rate I think you've accomplished your goals here, very nice work.
You've probably seen the effect before, not the design itself. The watermark effect is a halftone style which was created from their logo.
The client is rather low-budget and doesn't have any logos for each product, and I needed something to give texture to the design. So I went this direction because it's unique and stylish, yet familiar. I also did it very lightly so it gives the right amount of texture without demanding too much attention.
It's really nice, it'd get my attention in a store, but what the hell is a chat blocker? Does it block IM/IRC? Seems kinda redundant, people just shouldn't put the apps on their computers. I know that has nothing to do with you, I'm just saying ...
Well then, I think you realised the brief and concept nicely. Simple shapes and layout, but with that damn cool background it covers all the bases, methinks.

Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.
